Holy Week 2025 at the Salt Cathedral: A unique experience of faith, history, and culture underground
Zipaquirá (Cundinamarca, March 2024).- During Holy Week, the Salt Cathedral opens its doors to visitors from around the world, offering religious, architectural, and cultural attractions that allow for a unique family experience. The tour begins with the 14 Stations of the Cross, which each depict the events of Christ's Passion. The cathedral also houses the world's largest underground salt-carved cross. As a new attraction for 2025, the cathedral features a replica of the Holy Door of St. Peter's Basilica, which opens every 25 years in the Vatican, making the experience even more enriching, magical, and wonderful.
To complement the experience, a spectacular mapping project will be projected free of charge at the Diocesan Cathedral of Zipaquirá (main park) on Holy Thursday and Friday, starting at 7:00 pm.
Likewise, during Holy Week, the opening hours are extended as follows: from April 13 to 20, from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, with the exception of April 17 (Holy Thursday), which will be from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm and April 19 (Holy Saturday) from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm
“We are always filled with joy when Holy Week arrives. Our Salt Cathedral, Colombia's First Wonder, is more than ready to welcome visitors from all over the world during this season. We have prepared a unique program that runs from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday. Of course, we have the 14 Stations of the Cross, along with all our religious and architectural tourism offerings,” emphasized Yenny Páez Sabogal, Manager of the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá.
